Challenge
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP), in charge of the maintenance and operation of the most important canal in the world for international trade, has recently made a million-dollar investment in the modernization of the canal to improve service and satisfy growing customer demand. Saltex has played a key role in this improvement programme. Our main challenge for this project was to collaborate with the ACP to improve their access control systems and the centralization of their databases; avoiding at all times interrupting commercial operations.
Access control and database centralization are fundamental for the ACP because they guarantee efficient and secure management of human resources and access in the
89 canal buildings. This measure increases operational efficiency and contributes to maintaining the integrity and proper functioning of the Panama Canal, a vital asset for international trade.
Security control.
“It was one of the largest and most important projects we have been a part of. We are very grateful for your trust. They toasted us and were proud of the result. We know that the ACP team values the improvements”
Mauricio Salmon CEO President, Saltex Group.
Solution
By taking advantage of the access cards already installed and implementing new chips into them, we were able to transition to this new system without disrupting daily operations. Additionally, integrating the three existing databases into one centralized database was a crucial component. Prior to our work, the ACP managed 3 different Databases, responding to the same questions. Currently, all operations related to human resources, access control and management, dispersed across ACP's 89 buildings, share a single database, providing ACP with greater ease and confidence in its security controls.
As this project was primarily about optimizing existing systems, it was a major challenge to carry it out while allowing ACP to continue business operations as usual. In line with our commitment to providing the best possible customer service, we managed to complete the installation and integration of key systems during peak operating hours without causing any disruption.
Results
The ACP team, like the Panama Canal, are equipped with access control of the highest technological quality. Guaranteeing better control and security when it comes to unwanted access and restrictions on different employees. It can be said that the efficiency of internal control processes is greater now that their databases are unified in a centralized database. This project represented a great challenge, as we had to work allowing the ACP to continue with its business operations as usual. In line with our commitment to providing the best possible customer service, we managed to complete the installation and integration of key systems during peak operating hours without causing any disruption.
